Use case 15

Ready to go (m)eat

Innovation in food production drives flexibility and efficiency

The demand for flexible, customer-focused food solutions is growing, while traditional production lines are not sufficiently addressing this need. Ready to go (m)eat is developing a smart and modular production line that efficiently and demand-driven produces ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook meals with a protein component (meat or vegetarian). Through automation and innovative technologies, this production becomes not only more efficient but also more scalable, without an increase in labor costs.

This project contributes to the agrifood ecosystem through knowledge sharing, technological advancement, and a more sustainable production process. At the same time, it addresses changes in the labor market, where the demand for low-skilled production work is decreasing and the need for knowledge-intensive roles is increasing.

Background Use Case 15

A modular and flexible production line that responds to consumer demand

The Ready to go (m)eat Use Case focuses on developing a modular production line capable of producing customer-oriented ready-to-eat or ready-to-cook products with a protein component (meat or vegetarian). The dynamic demand from consumers and retailers is translated into a smart, adjustable production line that produces the right products at the right time and with the right quality, using minimal labor. This marks a break from the current, less flexible production lines.

"Soon, we will be able to produce ready-to-eat meals fully flexibly and tailor-made."

Contribution to the ecosystem and the sector

Innovative food processing for a future-proof market

Within Agrifood, we aim to actively contribute to the visibility and positioning of our sector. This project not only highlights innovations in food processing but also strengthens the ecosystem through knowledge sharing, for example in the area of hygienic design. In addition, the project plays a role in attracting new talent. With the increasing automation and use of smart technologies, the sector becomes more appealing to professionals with specialized knowledge and skills.

Deliverables Use Case 15

From innovation to sustainable and efficient production

  • Development of a demand-driven, modular production line for customer-oriented meals

  • Architecture enabling flexibility at both hardware and control levels, including cloud and app integration

  • Secure and reliable data exchange between user and producer

  • Innovations in sensing (input and output quality), robotics, actuators, blockchain, AI, and waste reduction

Added value for Human Capital

New expertise for the next generation of food processing

This innovation marks a breakthrough in the automation of customer-specific food production, which is still largely performed manually today. As a result of this shift, the need for low-skilled production workers will decrease, while the demand for knowledge-intensive roles, such as line and shift managers, will grow. This addresses current labor market challenges and contributes to the sustainable development of the sector.
