What can you already do today with the data and infrastructure of tomorrow

How can you use data and technology to grow smarter, work more efficiently and prepare your business for the future? During this Demo Day you will see what is already possible in greenhouse horticulture when working with digital twins, AI, sensors and a shared infrastructure. You will explore concrete applications, hear from experts about what works and what does not, and discover how your role as grower or as developer, researcher or policymaker can determine the next step towards handsfree growing.

Program Demo Day Data and Infrastructure

On this day you will see how data, digital twins and robotics come together in applications that move your own work forward. Continuous showcases, guided tours and one-time sessions give you the chance to see technology in action and translate it directly into your practice. Below you can find the full program.

Recurring sessions at set times

Hortivationpoint at 10:30, 12:00 and 13:30

To remain future-proof, greenhouse companies need systems and installations that not only perform well but also communicate seamlessly with each other. A shared language alone is not enough. It is just as important to standardize the exact location of each system and installation.

That is why Hortivation and TNO developed the Common Greenhouse Ontology and the Hortivationpoint. In TomatoWorld you will see how this standard works in practice. Because all parties use the same language and reference, it becomes easier to develop new applications, connect to existing systems and scale up innovations. You will experience how standardization helps the sector move forward faster and with more certainty, directly contributing to the continuity and success of your business.

Immersive technology at 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00

Modern greenhouses generate enormous amounts of data, from climate and crop growth to energy and labor. But how do you make sure all that information not only provides insights but is also directly usable?

In this demonstration you will discover how Augmented Reality (AR) offers a completely new way of communicating and visualizing. Data no longer appears only on a screen but exactly at the place where it happens inside the greenhouse. This makes information instantly applicable and accessible for everyone working with it.

Together with TomatoWorld, Erasmus University Rotterdam and 360Fabriek, NXTGEN shows how immersive technology helps horticulture use data more effectively while opening up new forms of communication that make the sector future-proof.

Dashboarding and Digital Twin at 11:30, 13:00 and 14:30

Greenhouses generate vast amounts of data, but how do you turn that into usable insights that really speed up innovation? In the NXTGEN Fieldlab TomatoWorld, the Robocrops Datahub has been developed to bring together data from hundreds of sources.

In this session you will see how dashboarding and Digital Twin functionalities help to test and validate innovations in a clear and structured way. This makes it easier for companies in the ecosystem to move towards the market faster and with more certainty. You will also get a look at how recent developments around AI and LLMs further strengthen these possibilities.

One-time sessions

Innovation for horticulture with mathematicians from 11:00 to 12:00

Led by the members of the Innovation Committee Mathematics, Mark Roest and George van Voorn

How do you translate mathematical theory into solutions that help growers and technology companies today? In this session the Innovation Committee Mathematics shows how models and calculations directly contribute to the development of greenhouses, robots and crops. Think of smart climate control, statistical genetics for breeding, various applications of hybrid machine learning, and the further development of digital twins.

You will also discover how companies and universities can launch new projects together, for example through NWO calls. There will be room to ask your own questions and share ideas on where mathematics can add value to your innovations. This interactive session offers a concrete chance to explore collaboration.

Immersive technology from 13:00 to 14:00

The amount of data in greenhouses is growing at a rapid pace. Sensors measure climate, crop growth and energy, but how do you translate all those numbers into insights that truly move your work forward? During this interactive presentation, experts from the Erasmus Center for Data Analytics will guide you into the world of Extended Reality. Through practical examples, you will discover the opportunities this offers in greenhouse horticulture and how XR makes complex data instantly visible in the right place.

You will get an exclusive look behind the scenes of the NXTGEN project and experience how XR technology provides faster insights, smarter decision making and a much more user friendly way of dealing with complexity. Engage with the experts, get inspired and see for yourself how data comes to life and how XR can strengthen your work.

Why attend the Demo Day Data and Infrastructure?

You will not only see where the sector stands technologically, but also what this means for your role. Whether you are looking for smart applications for your greenhouse, insight into the infrastructure behind digital twins, or the biggest opportunities in data, this day will show you. Everything takes place in a practical setting with tangible examples. You will meet peers, experts and project partners and discover how your organisation can contribute to the next step. Not as a spectator, but as a co-developer in an ecosystem focused on scalable solutions and impactful collaboration.

Who should attend the Demo Day Data and Infrastructure?

This day is relevant for anyone working on innovation in or around greenhouse horticulture. If you are involved in cultivation, technology, policy or research, you will find knowledge, examples and contacts to help you move forward.

  • Cultivation managers and business leaders aiming to optimise processes.

  • Data specialists and developers of AI, sensors or digital twins.

  • R&D and innovation managers in technology companies.

  • Policymakers and programme leaders in government or industry associations.

  • Teachers, researchers and trainers in greenhouse horticulture or high-tech.

  • Project managers and network builders looking for collaboration or scaling.

From vision to practice in the greenhouse innovation package

The Demo Day is part of the NXTGEN Hightech Agrifood greenhouse innovation package. Here we are working towards a handsfree future for the sector with technology that is widely applicable and contributes to a more efficient, sustainable and scalable greenhouse horticulture. Tomatoworld serves as an ecosystem location where innovations are tested, validated and shared. Not as trial balloons, but as steps towards real-world implementation.

Costs Demo Day Data and Infrastructure

Participation in the demo day is free of charge, but registration is required due to limited capacity.
