TKI/PPS award for Biohybrid kidney XB

Last week it was announced that Health~Holland will make a subsidy of €2.1 million available for the next 5 years for a PPP program for the development of biohybrid artificial kidneys that can function continuously in the body. This ensures that the quality of the treatment improves and eventually that dialysis is no longer necessary. This is a follow-up step to the portable artificial kidney, an initiative of the Dutch Kidney Foundation, which will soon be tested on patients.

The PPP programme (public-private partnership programme) is made possible by the Dutch Kidney Foundation and Health~Holland (Top Sector Life Sciences & Health). The Biohybrid Kidney XB Program group consisting of RegMedXB, Imec, Utwente, UU, UMC Utrecht and the partners of the NXTGEN Hightech program, is looking for partnerships with companies interested in the joint development of membrane technology, (synthetic) cell technology, materials science and micro-electromechanical systems for (semi-)implantable artificial kidneys and similar devices.

The program is an open tender for high tech companies to co-develop biohybrid artificial kidney technology. A matchmaking event will be organized early in 2025. Project- and valorisation plans will be monitored by an independent expert committee of the Dutch Kidney Foundation and RegMedXB.
