Recap | HTDX visit Japan 18 - 28 May

NXTGEN Semicon visited Japan from 18 to 28 May for a renewed acquaintance with Japanese semicon companies. During the first week of the mission, they visited relevant companies for the semiconductor industry. In the second week, NXTGEN Semicon visited the companies that mainly focus on photonics and quantum.

During the mission, attention was paid to integrated photonics as a strategic pillar within the Semiconductor Applications cluster. NXTGEN Semicon remains committed to further strengthening the cooperation between the Netherlands and Japan in this area as well.

"It is very interesting to see how the knowledge institutions in Japan are really focusing on heterogeneous integration and, for example, low power (photonic) computing" - Ivan Stojanović, Senior Business developer and project manager Semicon, Photonics & Heterogenous Systems

NXTGEN Semicon also visited companies in the field of quantum. During these visits, she was introduced to a 256-qubit quantum computer and visited Osaka University for a unique insight into fundamental research and future collaborations in the field of quantum technology.

"The Netherlands and Japan each bring unique strengths in the field of various technologies, including quantum. It is precisely for this reason that it is good to look at which partnerships can be developed." - Eric-Mark Huitema, CEO High Tech NL

What was partly evident from the mission was that people in Japan showed a lot of interest in the way Dutch companies work together with national and international knowledge institutions.

During this mission, High Tech NL acted as mission leader on behalf of the Semiconductor Applications cluster, with a specific focus on quantum and photonics. A word of thanks to all partners, participants and organizations that made this possible.

In the coming period, work will be done to deepen the contacts made during the mission. Together with partners, concrete collaborations in the field of photonics, quantum and other relevant technology are being explored, in order to jointly accelerate innovation and strengthen knowledge exchange between the Netherlands and Japan. If you have any questions about this, please contact Ivan Stojanovic.
