See what is known by domain and region before choosing your market
If you work on digital technology or robotics for open-field cultivation or post-harvest processing, you need to know whether a market is digitally ready for your solution. This market study brings together knowledge on digital maturity, adoption and willingness to invest across four domains and the Global North. The platform includes an AI chatbot that lets you explore questions relevant to your specific application or market. Each answer links back to its original source, allowing you to check the findings and assess their relevance to your market decisions.
Broad knowledge question
Better market decisions start with access to existing research
Companies developing digital technology and robotics for agriculture need to make choices about markets, regions and next steps. Those choices call for knowledge about digital maturity, adoption and willingness to invest. That knowledge exists, but it is spread across studies, domains and regions. ringing existing research together makes it easier to identify available insights and gaps in current knowledge.
Approach
Research findings organised and made searchable
The market study is based on a systematic review of scientific publications and other research sources. The studies cover four domains and the Global North. They were assessed for quality, indexed and categorised by region and domain. Figures and tables were described in a uniform way and made accessible through a web platform with an AI chatbot. The setup was validated in one round with the projects within IP1. Wageningen Research and Groenpact were involved.
Goal
Existing market research brought together in one place
The study brings together available knowledge on digital maturity, adoption and willingness to invest. Projects within IP1 can now search and compare existing research findings through a single knowledge base. Access to the platform is available on request through digital-farm-atlas.lovable.app. The summary shows which domains and regions are covered and where research gaps remain.
Results and reflection
Most available research covers arable farming, Europe and North America
The platform contains 41 quality-assessed studies with 154 figures and 112 tables. The knowledge is searchable by domain and region. Most available research focuses on arable farming and markets in Europe and North America. Less research was found on fruit growing, post-harvest processing, Japan and Oceania, making these priorities for further research. The study was presented during the GOFAR Tour at AgroTechniek Holland in Biddinghuizen on 16 September 2026.
Sucesses
Knowledge has been made searchable by domain and region.
The platform combines studies, figures and tables in a searchable form.
Coverage is strongest for arable farming and for Europe and North America.
Learning points
Fruit growing, post-harvest processing, Japan and Oceania remain underrepresented.
These areas are a priority for further research.
The study provides a knowledge base for market questions, not a final conclusion on digital maturity, adoption or willingness to invest.
