Dutch electrolyser industry in focus at World Hydrogen Summit 2026

During the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam, the session Biggest and budget: discover the Dutch electrolyser industry will highlight how Dutch companies contribute to the development, manufacturing and scaling of electrolyser technology.

From 19 to 21 May 2026, Rotterdam Ahoy will host the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition, where international companies, governments and knowledge organisations come together to discuss the next steps in the global hydrogen economy. The event includes a conference, exhibition and a government programme with knowledge sessions and workshops.

On Thursday 21 May, the session “Biggest and budget: discover the Dutch electrolyser industry” will put the Dutch electrolyser industry in the spotlight. The session takes place from 09:30 to 10:30 in Dock 15 and focuses on the strength of the Dutch hydrogen value chain. Visitors will be taken on a journey from the smallest electrolyser developed in the Netherlands to the largest.

Electrolyser technology plays an important role in the development of green hydrogen. At the same time, the next step is not only about technology itself. It also requires hightech manufacturing, system integration, scalable production methods and close cooperation across the value chain. This is where the Dutch hightech ecosystem can make an important contribution.

The session includes examples from Zero Emission Fuels and Alquion, formed through the merger of Battolyser Systems and VDL Hydrogen Systems. Both organisations are involved in NXTGEN Hightech projects focused on hightech solutions for the energy transition. Within NXTGEN Hightech, ZEF is connected to the project on mass production of ZEF micro-plants for affordable solar fuel, while VDL Hydrogen Systems is connected to the PHOENIX-Alkalina project.

These examples show how different routes within electrolyser innovation can contribute to the broader development of the hydrogen sector. From compact systems for sunny, off-grid locations to modular and scalable electrolyser platforms, the Dutch ecosystem brings together companies, knowledge institutions and manufacturing expertise.

For NXTGEN Hightech, this session offers a clear example of why collaboration is essential. By combining technological knowledge, industrial experience and ecosystem development, Dutch partners are working on hightech equipment and production capabilities that can support the energy transition.
